March Meta Matters Challenge, Check-in 6
Mar. 22nd, 2022 03:43 pmHello everyone! It's check-in time again to see how we're all getting along with our meta importing.
Comment below with any of the following:
1) Is there something you always forget to do when you're posting work to AO3?
2) Did you write new meta based on the last post's prompt? Share it here! Or if you didn't, share a link(s) to a work that's now housed on AO3 that you'd like to get more eyes on.
And if you've been lurking, remember that you can join in to this challenge at any point during the month. The important part is getting started!

Date: 2022-03-22 09:00 pm (UTC)Other things involve things like "Originally posted on". If I have a post open in edit mode to copy over the coding, I can't see the date, so I generally put in the month and year and then have to add the day after. But I sometimes forget. (Sidenote: This is just something I'm doing with my own posts, not anything anyone else needs to do!)
I did not write any new meta for the prompts this month, although I have written two movie reviews over the last weeks (one of which I did add to AO3 already). Mostly I have been determinedly chugging through my account as my current goal is to get all the way through 2015 by the end of the month. And I am particularly happy to have caught up on my re-review of old posts to ensure I hadn't missed any LJ polls I wanted to save.
However for a meta piece I'd put a spotlight on, perhaps this one: TV Writing and Watching as a Group as I think it's relatively generic fandom-wise and hits on a variety of different ideas.

Not really. I got tired of forgetting something while trying to post fic a few years ago and created a template with the ao3 fields in order. I can copy that Google Doc, fill in whatever as needed (including getting HTML worked out there), and then copy over from that to the ao3 page when posting.

I haven't written anything based on prompts. After lurking and making view-locked posts (to PF followers and mutuals), I finally archived some meta about The Purge movies, the Ready Player One movie, and the show Pose. I did a round-up with a brief note on what was different, especially for works that started as PF posts. The post is viewable to everyone [a PF account is not needed to see it]: https://www.pillowfort.social/posts/2620242.

Date: 2022-03-27 04:41 pm (UTC)That sounds like a very handy thing to create! Although I don't have a template, I've found that I've developed a system for my hunt and copy system this past month, and there are some things I copy for re-use. But while that helps speed things along it doesn't stop me from missing fields.
Congrats for getting that done 🙌 I've found that I often have to edit a little bit, even in my short fragments, as there are asides, references to other things I posted, etc. Signs of how the original post context influences what we write!
