March Meta Matters Challenge, Check-in No. 8

I did a good bit of transferring this week, and am up to July 2020 so I had to take a look back to see what might be a favorite.

I think I'll point to What's In a Word? to which I added a chapter when I came across a similarly themed post: https://squidgeworld.org/works/38170/chapters/82198

It's not a roadblock but I have found that I have on a number of occasions written about the same theme at a different point in time. Rather than creating new posts for these, if I can recall or retrieve the earlier posts, I just add them as a chapter. It's not always that easy to find the earlier posts! There's at least twice recently when I'm positive I've written about a topic before but can't seem to find it (either on SQW or in my DW account).

I also posted my new meta this week, which was a response to a post about gen fic growing at AO3.

About the second or third time I have to answer the same question, I usually write up a detailed post and save that to my Memories file so that in the future I can just refer people to that one. It saves a lot of time. And I developed that habit because I used to repeat myself more, which wastes time.

I've done some odds and ends of saving and tagging meta, but mostly I've concentrated on writing new meta. I'm really pleased with the Wednesday stuff I've done.

LOL yes: "You're a brilliant girl, but sometimes you get in your own way." I haven't gotten as far as I wanted to, because a few lines of notes grew into 156 pages of notes, which have added up to ...

New meta is indeed good!

I can see why you're in your own way. It does indeed happen like that though. I've sometimes thought I'll get through a bunch of posts quickly, and then it turns out that there are bits here and there which I could cobble together or flesh out into new posts. It can be hard to decide what to invest time in and what to leave behind.

Yeah, the part I really wanted to get to was actually Thing, but I didn't feel like it would make much sense to do that without covering the show and Wednesday herself, which also have many aspects I adore.

With an article, I can hit a size target. With fiction, forget it, I can't tell the difference between a short story and a novel series. Sometimes meta or demifiction will do the same. I have repeatedly oopsed a book while doing xenolinguistic dictionary notes or worldbuilding settings.
